NSEA releases new strategic plan

On October 25, 20005, the NSEA Board of Directors adopted a new Strategic plan to guide the organization for the next three years.

The Strategic Plan is a forward-looking document that defines the vision, goals, objectives and actions that help NSEA meet its mission in the future. Here is a synopsis of the 2006 Strategic Plan. Click NSEA Strategic Plan to see a copy of the full strategic plan.

Mission Statement:

Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association is a community–based nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring sustainable wild salmon runs in Whatcom County.

Vision and Core Values

1. We envision all salmonid (Pacific salmon, native trout and native char) habitat in Whatcom County to be protected and/or restored, supporting self-sustaining wild populations of all species of native salmonids.
2. We envision all residents of Whatcom County to be stewards of wild salmonids and their habitat, and to be fully educated and involved in salmonid habitat protection and restoration.
3. We envision NSEA as a credible, respected and successful nonprofit and volunteer-based organization with strong community support, sustainable funding, and effective, coordinated partnerships with other groups and individuals active in wild salmonid restoration.
   

Goals

1. Enhance, rehabilitate and restore critical salmonid habitat through partnering and participating in the design and implementation of recovery plans for all species of wild salmonids native to Whatcom County watersheds.
2. Evaluate NSEA’s salmonid restoration activities through implementation, effectiveness and validation monitoring.
3. Develop partnerships with landowners to identify and implement salmonid recovery projects.
4. Implement watershed based stewardship programs that integrate education with restoration outreach.
5. Develop and implement education programs for elementary through post-secondary level students.
6. Develop community awareness of NSEA.
7. Maintain NSEA’s focus and identity as a community-based nonprofit organization.
8. Integrate and empower volunteers to assist NSEA in all parts of its mission.
9. Strengthen internal structure to support effective and efficient operations.
10. Maintain a diverse, stable and predictable funding base and strong financial resources and reserves.
