 Spring Work Party Schedule:

March 6th                                 Whatcom Creek

Help NSEA kick off our spring work party season with the City of Bellingham’s Parks Volunteer Program at Red Tail Reach and the Racine Trail along Whatcom Creek, just below Whatcom Falls Park. We’ll be working to maintain this restoration site by removing non-native, invasive plant species and planting new native shrubs along the stream and trail.  Parking is available in the Geri Fields parking lot at the corner of Fraser St. and Puget St.  Look for signs and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

March 13th                                     Bells Creek

Team up with NSEA and the Whatcom Land Trust out in Deming as we work to remove non-native, invasive plant species like Himalayan blackberry and Japanese knotweed (knotweed stomping is super fun!) and old barbed-wire fencing along Bell Creek and the North Fork Nooksack River.  To get to this new site head east on the Mt. Baker Highway (SR 542) for about 13 miles – passing over the Nooksack River, through Deming, passing the Nooksack Casino, and passing through Welcome.  Turn right onto Bells Creek Rd., just about 3.5 miles passed the casino.  Parking will be available.  Look for signs and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

March 20th                                Squalicum Creek

Join NSEA and Bellingham Cold Storage employees, friends, and family as we work to remove trash and non-native, invasive plant species and spread mulch throughout this established restoration site.  This site is located on the corner of Squalicum Way and Meridian St. right across from Cornwall Park.  Parking is available in the lot at Cornwall Park.  Look for signs, cross these busy streets carefully, and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

March 27th                             Connelly Creek

Join NSEA and the City of Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program at Happy Valley Park as we work to remove non-native, invasive plant species and plant new native shrubs along Connelly Creek.  Parking is available in the parking lot of the Market at Fairhaven, located at the corner of Old Fairhaven Parkway and 30th St. Walk west towards Fairhaven on Old Fairhaven Parkway, look for signs and then the blue NSEA tent, and check in there.

April 10th                                Terrell Creek

Help NSEA and the Whatcom County Marine Resources Committee restore streamside habitat along the banks of Terrell Creek in Birch Bay State Park by planting native trees and shrubs at this new site in Birch Bay. From I-5, take the Grandview Rd. exit (exit 266) and head west – following the signs for Birch Bay State Park.  Follow for about 7 miles and turn right at the stop sign at Jackson Rd., then turn left onto Helweg Rd. about 1 mile down.  Drive through the park and turn right onto Birch Bay Drive.  Parking is available in the parking lot on the right.  Look for signs and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

April 17th                              Whatcom Creek

Join NSEA and the City of Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program as we work to improve natural habitat for salmon and other wildlife at Maritime Heritage Park.  We’ll be removing non-native, invasive plant species along the new trails through the park.  Parking is available in the lot on C St. just off of Holly St. in downtown Bellingham.  Look for signs and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

April 24th                                 Terrell Creek

Help NSEA and the Chums of Terrell Creek restore habitat for coho and chum salmon by planting native trees and shrubs along Terrell Creek.  From I-5, take the Grandview Rd. exit (exit 266) and head west.  Follow for about 7 miles and turn right at the stop sign at Jackson Rd.  Parking is available in the parking lot at the Birch Bay Bible Community Church on the left.  Cross Jackson Rd. and check in at the blue NSEA tent.

May 1st                                    NSEA Nursery

Join NSEA staff and our Washington Conservation Corps crew as we ready the nursery for the summer season.  Help us pot up bare-root plants and organize our native plant nursery. From I-5, take the Sunset Drive/Mt. Baker Highway exit (exit 255) and head east.  Turn left onto Hannegan Rd. and follow for 1 mile.  NSEA is located at 2445 E. Bakerview Rd. on the southeast corner of Hannegan Rd. and the intersection at Bakerview Rd.  Park here and check in at the NSEA tent
